Biography
About Ben
Ben Gord is Head of Fundamental Investment Strategies for Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM). In this role, Ben oversees the High Yield, Multi-Sector, and Securitized portfolio management teams as well as the Cap Structure Team, which is comprised of the credit and equity research teams. Prior to this role, Ben oversaw portfolio implementation across investment strategies, with a focus on translating investment decisions into efficient, scalable, and risk-controlled portfolios.
Ben brings deep expertise across traditional and alternative fixed income, quantitative research, and portfolio construction with more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Northern Trust in 2022, he was founder and managing partner of Lantern Harbor Investment Partners, where he served as head of portfolio construction and quantitative research. In that capacity, he was responsible for quantitative research, portfolio risk management, technology development, and the design of systematic investment strategies. Concurrently, Ben served as a managing director and quantitative credit portfolio manager at Ellington Management Group, managing systematic credit strategies and developing derivative-based portfolio overlays.
Previously, Ben was a managing director and fixed income portfolio manager at Wafra Inc., where he managed a global fixed income portfolio and developed proprietary risk models to replicate benchmarks and hedge active risk. Earlier in his career, he held senior portfolio management and research roles at Pioneer Investments, Sun Life Financial, OFI Global Asset Management, Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Smith Barney, and Alphametrics Corporation. Across these roles, Ben managed and supported a wide range of fixed income strategies, led quantitative research and analytics development, and contributed to the management of large, multi-asset investment platforms.
Ben earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from New York University and completed doctoral coursework in economics at the University of Pennsylvania, with a focus on mathematical economics, monetary theory, and finance.
