About Joseph
Joseph McInerney is chief risk officer for Northern Trust Asset Management. He is responsible for the assessment and governance of risk for all Northern Trust Asset Management activities globally, and the establishment and oversight of risk policies and frameworks. Joseph chairs the Asset Management Risk Committee.
With more than 20 years of leadership experience at Northern Trust, Joseph has served in a number of roles, including head of the firm’s outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) practice, where he was responsible for providing customized investment solutions to institutional and global family office clients. He also has served as chief operating officer for Northern Trust Global Advisors, as well as president and CEO of Northern Trust Company of Connecticut. Prior to joining Northern Trust, he worked as a senior bank examiner for the State of Illinois Office of Banks and Real Estate.
Joseph holds an MBA in finance from DePaul University and a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University. Joseph serves on the board of The Healthy Communities Foundation and the Finance Advisory Board at DePaul University. Volunteer activities include the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Northern Illinois University Foundation.
