Biography

About  Anwiti

Anwiti Bahuguna, Ph.D, is global co-chief investment officer for Northern Trust Asset Management. In partnership, she oversees the development and execution of a broad range of investment capabilities including index, fundamental, quantitative and tax-advantaged strategies, plus active, multi-asset class solutions and alternative investments. In this capacity, she is also responsible for the development of the firm’s investment performance, vision and philosophy and co-leads an investment team of more than 300 professionals globally.

Anwiti also serves as CIO of multi-asset investment, which includes heading the OCIO investment teams for the retirement and not-for-profit businesses. In this capacity, she leads NTAM’s strategic asset allocation, tactical asset allocation and capital market assumptions, and oversees the portfolio construction group and multi-manager business. She is a member of the Asset Management Leadership Group, Investment Policy Committee, and Risk Committee, along with Northern Trust’s Capital Committee.

Previously at Northern Trust, Anwiti was deputy global co-CIO and CIO of multi-asset investments.

With 27 years of investment industry experience, Anwiti has built and strengthened global investment teams and developed multi-asset strategies using equities, fixed income and alternative investments. For two decades, she served as head of U.S. multi-asset strategy at Columbia Threadneedle, responsible for approximately $45 billion in assets under management. Additionally, Anwiti was lead portfolio manager for the firm’s asset allocation funds and separately managed accounts. She also contributed to the firm’s capital market assumptions, strategic asset allocation, tactical asset allocation, manager selection and derivative overlays.

Anwiti earned a doctorate in economics from Northeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. She serves on the Board of Ammonoosuc Conservation Trust, where she is also a member of the finance committee. Anwiti frequently has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times and Barron’s and has been interviewed on CNBC and Bloomberg.
